HOW MUCH TO SET ASIDE FOR YOUR NEW START UP BUSINESS

Starting a new business and need some guidance on where to start? At ocreations, we have over 45 years of combined professional experience building brands. Here are our suggestions and answers to questions you may have:

How much should my start up business set aside for initial graphic design, web design, and marketing?

At ocreations, we’ve worked with a large variety of small businesses, such as: hair salons, auto shops, realty companies, music record companies, and more. Each type of business needs marketing materials suited to their industry-related needs. For instance, a hair salon may need more coupons or magazine ads for marketing materials, whereas an auto shop may need to focus more on their website for customers to learn about their services and see examples of jobs they’ve done.

We always tell clients they’ll need a minimum of $5,000 to get started.

What does a base start up branding package get you? Starting at $5,000* you can get . . .

– logo/brand

– business cards

– bi-fold or tri-fold brochure

– 5 page CMS responsive website

What does a more robust start up branding package get you? Starting at $10,000*, you can get . . .

– logo/brand

– business cards

– bi-fold or tri-fold brochure

– exterior sign design

– 5 page CMS responsive website

– website SEO

– 3 month web marketing package with retargeting ads

Of course, if your budget allows, there are endless possibilities for investing your budget into customized marketing materials. However, those $5,000 and $10,000 base packages are essential for starting your business. Once your business has launched and is running smoothly, that would be the time to start investing a portion of your budget/revenue into monthly marketing retainers for continual exposure.

Monthly retainers are a flat rate each month for a designated number of hours of work done by our designers. These retainers allow your business to get priority service, guaranteed monthly marketing materials, and even reduced rates on services. For example, a retainer could include: monthly digital and print ads, monthly e-news and print newsletters, packaging production, seasonal campaigns, and more. Retainers allow you to have the security of knowing your brand will continually have exposure, but without the hassle of trying to figure out budgets, creative concepts, etc. for each individual project.
